Hmm, thats a difference between 1.0.19 and CVS... When the hard coded 
-ldl got fixed, probably -version-info got converted to -version-number 
(pre-dates automake changes anyways).

I thought -version-number was correct way as well but output of "libtool 
--help --mode=link" only lists -version-info.  I go research.
