Dear all,

After missing a few release announcements due to problems with mail
delivery failures to the list, I am pleased to announce that a new
release of Image Scan! for Linux has been made available on my
employer's website. The release announcement is at:

   http://avasys.jp/hp/page000001300/news00011_e.htm

Here is the relevant bit of the NEWS file for iscan-2.21.0:

  * adds support for the following devices:
    - Artisan 710 Series
    - Artisan 810 Series
    - Epson Stylus Office BX610FW Series
    - Epson Stylus Office TX610FW Series
    - Epson Stylus Photo PX650 Series
    - Epson Stylus Photo PX710W Series
    - Epson Stylus Photo PX810FW Series
    - Epson Stylus SX610FW Series
    - WorkForce 610 Series
  * adds Fedora 11 support
  * adds a compact GUI mode for small form factor laptops/netbooks.
    This mode is activated automatically.
  * adds ability to cancel a scan in progress from the device's panel
for those devices that support it
  * fixes a problem with paper jams not being detected in certain cases
  * fixes a memory leak when scanning via the network plugin

The big news is that this release brings network interface support for
the relevant models listed above. This requires the (non-free) network
plugin which has also been updated. It is available from the download
pages of supported devices.

Older models with network interfaces may also work but are not
officially supported. In order to enable older devices to be detected by
the network plugin you must first edit /usr/share/iscan/fs-blacklist by
removing your model name from the file. Please note that the name in the
list does not necessarily correspond to the one on the box that came
with your hardware. Doing this may cause bugs/problems even when using
your scanner locally via USB. If this happens, the easiest thing to do
is to reinstall iscan.

Reports of any successes/failures using unsupported network hardware
would be appreciated. This information could help in getting "official"
network support status for your device.

Happy scanning
