Unfortunately, Allan is right. Your particular scanner requires a non-free 
plugin. You'll have to download the binary from the Avasys download site here:
http://www.avasys.jp/lx-bin2/linux_e/scan/DL1.do

Just select your model, fill out the short survey questions and download and 
install all the necessary packages.
