hello list, i want to report some problems with the samsung SCX-4521F
scanner, that i'm trying to set up for my girlfriend.
she uses ubuntu 10.4 with these versions of the software:
sane 1.0.14-9
libsane 1.10.20-13
sane-utils 1.10.20-13
i tested it with my somewhat similar SCX-4725FN and it's recognized
automatically, but not the 4521F.
after finding out the identifiers with sane-find-scanner, i added these
lines to /etc/sane.d/xerox_mfp.conf:
#Samsung SCX-4x21
usb 0x04e8 0x3419
now, running scanimage -L i see:
lucre at lu-hp:~$ scanimage -L
device `xerox_mfp:libusb:002:012' is a SAMSUNG ORION multi-function
peripheral
but it only works once, running the command a second time i get this:
lucre at lu-hp:~$ scanimage -L
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).
if i disconnect and reconnect the scanner, it appears again, but always
once. if i launch xsane after reconnecting the scanner, the application
recognizes it and opens, but then it freezes.
see below the result of sane-find-scanner -v -v
thanks for your attention,
lj

This is sane-find-scanner from sane-backends 1.0.20
# sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
# result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
# scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.

# Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be
