I discarded my changes and rebuilt:

root at opcode:/home/sweeney/src/sane-backends# scanimage -L
device `genesys:libusb:001:002' is a Xerox OneTouch 2400 flatbed scanner
root at opcode:/home/sweeney/src/sane-backends#
