Thanks very much for all the testing and help (and that of the other
more than 20 people at the time, several others of whom helped with
the programming, adding features and fixing my bugs), the driver would
never have been completed without it.

After it is in SANE code, compiling any development version of SANE
will give you support, simple as that.

I can't even answer questions about SANE releases, let alone what
distributions are going to do with it!
But since you already compiled from source before, that won't change.
The main thing of importance will be that you can use the development
source as is, without any clash of parallel developments.
