Hello again

I succeeded in finding a file named "lexmark-scan.log" and here follows 
the contence:

The opening of "lexmark-scan.pnm" failed (cannot be opend)

First thanks for the quick answer!

I must admit, that some "numbers" of my problem changed: After

downgrading ubuntu 11.04 to 10.10 AND
downgrading suse 11.4 to 11.3

I realised: the running version of xsane with ubuntu 10.10 AND suse 11.3 
was

*xsane .997*

As I am no champion in debugging I have problems with Your demans to 
send the Lexmark-scan.log file. I don't exactly know how to create this 
file an where to look at it ....

but I can send results of 75 dpi scanning and 150 dpi scanning

export SANE_DEBUG_LEXMARK=255
export SANE_DEBUG_LEXMARK_LOW=255
scanimage --resolution 150 2>lexmark-scan.log>lexmark-scan.pnm
