hello
I tried to install "sane-utils 1.0.21" as *.deb (because of the version
number) instead of "sane 1.0.14-9" as I found in the "synaptic": package
adress:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/natty/i386/sane-utils/1.0.21-9ubuntu1
without success (no progress in installing for 1/2 h

Downgrading xsane .998 to xsane .997 on ubuntu 11.4 with *NO
POSITIVE* result
*
scan.logs are all different and big (~ 14000 lines)
* The "connection" between
- "u 11.04", "s 11,4" and
- xsane .997, xsane .998, skanlite
has changed, maybe caused by different memory management between
xsane / scanlite
and Linux
