[sane-devel] Getting a Brother DCP-7040 to scan

I just acquired a Brother DCP-7040 USB printer/scanner/copier and have 
just gotten it to print (CUPs on Slackware 13.37) and now I am trying to 
get the scanner with document feeder to work. I downloaded and installed 
the following from Brother:
brscan3-0.2.11-4.i386.rpm
brscan-skey-0.2.3-0.i386.rpm
I converted to Slackware packages and installed. But, no luck, xsane 
does not find it.
What else do I need to do? Brother is notorious for not giving 
instructions.
