You can't really expect SANE to be prescient ;-)
The Epson Stylus Office BX300F was launched somewhere in the second half
of 2008, if I'm not mistaken.
SANE 1.0.18 was released on 2006-07-02. The latest stable sane-backends
release is 1.0.22, released on 2011-02-13. The epson2 backend was added
in 1.0.19, released on 2008-02-10.
FWIW, CentOS 5.8 and 6.2 are available which may carry newer versions of
