Yup.  This scanner requires a non-free plugin in order to work.

You need to install *all* of

  iscan-data_1.36.0-1
  iscan_2.30.1-1~usb0.1.ltdl7
  iscan-plugin-perfection-v550_1.0.0-2

for things to work.
