[sane-devel] sane doesn't see scanner

Hi,
I have a Xerox WorkCentre 6027. It does not look like it is supported by
Sane.
Still, I tried to get it to run.
When I run sudo scanimage -L I get,
"No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages)."

When I run sane-find-scanner I get
 # sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
  # result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
  # scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.

  # No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure
that
  # you have loaded a kernel SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.

  # No USB scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure
that
  # you have loaded a kernel driver for your USB host controller and have
setup
  # the USB system correctly. See man sane-usb for details.
  # SANE has been built without libusb support. This may be a reason
  # for not detecting USB scanners. Read README for more details.

  # Not checking for parallel port scanners.

  # Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports
  # can't be detected by this program.

  # You may want to run this program as root to find all devices. Once you
  # found the scanner devices, be sure to adjust access permissions as
  # necessary.

I typed lsusb and got Bus 003 Device 005: ID 0924:42d4 Xerox
In the file /etc/sane.d/xerox_mfp.conf I put in the two lines
#Xerox WorkCentre 6027
usb 0x0924 0x42d4
In the file /etc/udev/rules.d/libsane.rules I put the two lines
# Xerox WorkCentre 6207
ATTRS{idVendor}=="0924", ATTRS{idProduct}=="42d4", MODE="0664",
GROUP="scanner", ENV{libsane_matched}="yes"

When I type echo sudo ldconfig -v | grep libsane
I get
sbin/ldconfig.real: Can't stat /lib/i686-linux-gnu: No such file or
directory
/sbin/ldconfig.real: Can't stat /usr/lib/i686-linux-gnu: No such file or
directory
/sbin/ldconfig.real: Path `/usr/local/lib' given more than once
/sbin/ldconfig.real: Path `/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu' given more than once
/sbin/ldconfig.real: Path `/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu' given more than once
/sbin/ldconfig.real: /lib/i386-linux-gnu/ld-2.19.so is the dynamic linker,
ignoring

    libsane.so.1 -> libsane.so.1.0.25
    libsane.so.1 -> libsane.so.1.0.23
/sbin/ldconfig.real: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ld-2.19.so is the dynamic
linker, ignoring

    libsane.so.1 -> libsane.so.1.0.23
/sbin/ldconfig.real: /lib32/ld-2.19.so is the dynamic linker, ignoring

I'm thinking that maybe sane is not installed correctly, or installed too
many times.
I'm thinking that maybe I'm not linked properly to libusb-1.0.20
Also, I'm not sure where I get the firmware file for the 6027 and where I
put it and how
do I tell sane where it is?
