Hi Kip,
As Olaf mentioned before, your scanner is implemented in stable SANE version 1.0.28 (http://www.sane-project.org/sane-backends.html#S-PIXMA), but not tested yet.
If you're using Ubuntu or an Ubuntu clone, you can use my ppa to update SANE: https://launchpad.net/~rolfbensch/+archive/ubuntu/sane-git .
If you have another Linux OS, please install SANE as described in INSTALL.linux (http://www.sane-project.org/docs.html).
If your scanner can be found by SANE, please test scanning all dpi resolutions and the document feeder with single/multiple pages, single side and duplex. Maybe you want to test WiFi support.
