Any update on this?  Were you able to obtain a scanner and do any work
on this?  It seems there is indeed demand for this model to be better
supported by SANE; besides this 1200dpi issue there is also the problem
that monochrom and greyscale scans are distorted at any resolution; the
latter problem has been reported multiple times on the issue tracker:
