[sane-devel] Using "scanimage" under Gentoo

I promised to run tests using the current version of "sane-backends" as
well as my Canon Pixma scanner. I used a three sheets, six pages color
original and scanned with "--source 'ADF Duplex'":

Test 1: Run with "export SANE_DEBUG_BJNP=127". After scanning the 4-th
page successfully, the scanner started to pull in the last sheet
before the second sheet was completely moved out of the way, re-
sulting in the scanner's hard- or firmware pulling some sort of
emergency brake and stopping the scan.

Test 2: To see whether this was just the debog-output getting in the way
I did this test WITHOUT specifying "export SANE_DEBUG_BJNP=127".
This time the scanner totally "forgot" to scan the reverse side
of the second sheet, immediately scanned the last sheet, and
then claimed the scan to having been successful. Sorry, no de-
        bug data available :-(

Test 3: Again with "export SANE_DEBUG_BJNP=127". This test did produce
six correct page images without throwing any errors.

Test 4: Again with "export SANE_DEBUG_BJNP=127". This test, too, did
produce six correct page images without throwing any errors.

Test 5: Without exporting "SANE_DEBUG_BJNP". Ran successfully.

So two out of five tests failed, and they failed in different ways, ind-
icating that there might be still timing or communication problems.

I've compressed the debug output from tests 1 and 3, but the files are
still huge:

   $ ls -l *.bz2
   -rw------- 1 rainer rainer 28659462 2020-02-14 13:35 paperjam.log.bz2
   -rw------- 1 rainer rainer 56919612 2020-02-14 13:37 success.log.bz2

As per your suggestions I'll send these files in two separate mails as
attachments to both, yourself and the list and will leave it to the list
moderator to decide.
