[sane-devel] Brother: does not scan

Hi,

I have an old workhorse, a Brother DCP 7010. This works (=scans) on
Ubuntu 16.04, but refuses to scan on Ubuntu 18.04 and 20.04 (in VM).

It prints without any problems.

The error-message of simple-scan on U18.04 is:

[+23,49s] DEBUG: simple-scan.vala:454: Requesting scan at 300 dpi from
device 'bus4;dev1'
[+23,49s] DEBUG: scanner.vala:1569: Scanner.scan ("bus4;dev1", dpi=300,
scan_mode=ScanMode.COLOR, depth=8, type=ScanType.SINGLE, paper_width=0,
paper_height=0, brightness=0, contrast=0, delay=10000ms)
[+23,49s] DEBUG: scanner.vala:806: Processing request
[+23,50s] DEBUG: scanner.vala:867: sane_open ("bus4;dev1") ->
SANE_STATUS_INVAL
[+23,50s] WARNING: scanner.vala:871: Unable to get open device: Invalid
argument

XSane delivers a similar argument. There is also a simple program on
GitHub with the name hellosane, but it also does not work.

lsusb shows me:

Bus 001 Device 005: ID 04f9:0182 Brother Industries, Ltd DCP-7010

I downloaded the sources of version 1.0.29 and it compiled OK. So how
can I activate the macros DBG(x."...")?

My assumption is that the problem happens in the function sane_open()
(in net.c). By using these macros I hope to narrow down the reason of my
problem.

Any tips please.

Thanks

AugustQ
