Scanner: Toshiba e-Studio 2829A, Vendor ID 08A6, Product ID 8058
OS: Linux Mint 20 XFCE
SANE version: 1.0.29
* 1. Can someone confirm my educated guess that the above 'scanner'
(multi-function printer [MFP]) is not currently supported by SANE?
* 2. If it isn't supported, would a back-end 'bug report' be the best
way to request that support be added for it? (Or is there a reason
that developers may not want to attempt this for this device /
manufacturer?)
* 3. Toshiba does have Linux drivers for this device on their website,
but those seem to be only for the printing function, which works fine
for me. (From the documentation, it looks like printing should work
for Windows, Mac, and Linux, but that scanning may be limited to just
Windows, at least in relation to the support that they provide
themselves.)
* 4. My ideal use case is to be able to scan via the network (LAN and
wireless). The device is directly on the network with its own static
IP address, which I can ping successfully. Opening the default
front-end 'Document Scanner' ('simple-scan') results in the message
'no scanner detected'. Running this front-end from the terminal with
the device's URI results in it telling me it's ready to scan, but
when I attempt to scan it gives a message about not being able to
connect to the device.
* 5. I've grep'd the back-end config files on my system for both the
vendor ID and the product ID and didn't find any matches, which seems
consistent with the list of supported devices showing nothing from
Toshiba.
* 6. I've installed 'sane-airscan', and both 'scanimage -L' and
'airscan-discover' come up empty, so it appears this device does not
support the related protocols for driverless scanning.
* 7. Does anyone know of a workaround for getting this device to work
on my system for the use case mentioned above?
Let me know if you would like more information from me in order to
answer one or more of my questions.
Thanks,
Dustin
