[sane-devel] HP ScanJet Pro 2000 sudden failure

Plot thickens. Sigh :-(

I tried
% sudo dnf install ipp-usb
% sudo systemctl {enable,start,status} ipp-usb
which showed that ipp-usb.service was running
% sudo dnf install sane-airscan
which said the package was already installed
Got some suggestions from https://wiki.debian.org/CUPSDriverlessPrinting, and tried commenting-out the "escl" backend in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf.

% scanimage -L
device `airscan:e0:HP ScanJet Pro 2000 s2 (USB)' is a eSCL HP ScanJet Pro 2000 s2 (USB) ip=127.0.0.1
device `hpaio:/usb/HP_ScanJet_Pro_2000_s2?serial=CN09EA204V' is a Hewlett-Packard HP_ScanJet_Pro_2000_s2 all-in-one
device `hpaio:/net/scanjet_pro_2000_s2?ip=127.0.0.1&queue=false' is a Hewlett-Packard scanjet_pro_2000_s2 all-in-one

(Note: my Canon N1220U now doesn't show up.)
% xsane
now gives me three choices -- vis.,
eSCL HP ScanJet Pro 2 ip=127.0.0.1 [airscan:e0:HP ScanJet Pro 2000 s2 (USB)]
Hewlett-Pac HP_ScanJet_Pro_2 all-in-one [hpaio:/usb/HP_ScanJet_Pro_2000_s2?serial=CN09EA204V]
Hewlett-Pac scanjet_pro_2000 all-in-one [hpaio:/net/scanjet_pro_2000_s2?ip=127.0.0.1&queue=false]

Unfortunately, selecting any one of these three choices results in an error diagnostic --
Failed to open device `name-of-device': Error during device I/O.

Restoring "escl" to /etc/sane.d/dll.conf did not make any difference.

Any further suggestions, please.
