Hi, Joe.
I would expect the scanner functions of this device are supported (if
they are) via the pixma backend; but it's not explicitly listed as
supported by the documentation.
What is the USB device ID for this device? You can double-check if it's
listed in the documentation
(http://www.sane-project.org/man/sane-pixma.5.html) or the relevant
device table in the backend source code, probably

I'll note that Canon appears to distribute proprietary Linux drivers for
this device, which might be a better option for you in the very short
term.
