FYI, the Canon PIXMA MP140 (all-in-one) is now operational with Sane, the pixma backend has been updated to have the scanner part now working.

Thanks to Eric, recent owner of a MP140, and who supplied me with USB Snoop scans under Windows, it was possible to notice that, although being a model recently released by Canon, the MP140 does not use the latest, but the previous version of Canon's Pixma USB protocol (the one for PIXMA MP160, MP600, ...)

Changes done in pixma backend for enabling MP140 seems satisfactory, here under, the latest conversations with Eric.
Just uploaded today into CVS.

Of course, please report if anyone gets any issues.
Sounds great. As far as sending our exchanges to Sane-devel, no problem. Keep up the good work!
Ok then, that sounds fine.

I will next add the code to the Sane CVS version so that it will be integrated in next Sane release.

If you don't mind, I'll inform the Sane developers mailing list of this news, and copy of our last exchanges.
Xsane worked fine as well. I just had to run #make install, and tell the application that yes, I want to install it. I did not try Kooka, but I will. I had no problem with permissions, I was able to run as user with no problem. Thanks for all of your work on this.
Great news then !

I took a look at the log file and the scan and messages looks right !

Did you try it with Xsane ?
If scanning is correct with Xsane, then it should be OK with other frontends (Kooka, ...), but it can be worth a try too.

Let me know if scanning is right using Xsane ; if you need instructions on how to install it and set udev and permissions, you can look at the blog page I gave you (here under in the mails exchanges)

Thanks Eric for your help and feedback!

That seems to work! Here is the log file. What do we do next? Would you like me to test more, with different frontends, etc? I am happy to help any way I can.
Hi Eric,

Happy to read from you again!

So the Windows box released the expected log file, which revealed that MP140 looks to simply use ... previous (i.e. MP160, MP600, ...) USB protocol.

Let's do a test ?

Could you use please the package file attached, recompile it, and test it again as before (first with the scan utility provided), and send me back the log file produced.

Sincerely
