That's it, so far. One difference between root or non-root is, that a
additional small window is shown for one millisecond (can not see what
it is) before the window with "no scanner found" is popping up!
Compilation without error on this system:
OS: openSuSE 11.3 (64bit)
Kernel (uname -a): Linux Dorsy1.SNR 2.6.37-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT
2011-01-11 16:25:30 +0100 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Do Youn need more information or do I have to try it on an different
system (I can do tests on some of our pc's in company, if I do not need
to install sane-git! => differnet kernels available)

Hello,
could you add the following export to the script ? It will enable USB
traces:
export SANE_DEBUG_SANEI_USB=255
Maybe libusb support isn't built in (check you have libusb-devel or
better libusb_1.0-devel installed).

Ok, found one of my mistakes: missing libusb-devel and now I have
compiled the latest sane-backend (sane-backends-git20110215) with
configured libusb- support (./configure --enable-libusb_1_0). <br>
<br>
Now I have same problem as "normal" user: no scanner found. With
root- access I get: "Error while accessing device 'libusb:001:018':
Unknown argument" (Sorry if this is not the same like native english
error message, because I translated this from german error message!
:-) )<br>
Everytime I try to access the scanner as root, the device identifier
is increased after this error message (001:010 was displayed in
first message)!<br>

Now I got more output in logfile (take a look at attachted logfile)!
