HI,<br>

I am experiencing difficulty in making my current hardware/software
configuration operate with my Epson Perfection V33 scanner. The
same scanner operated fine with Ubuntu 14.04 and my old PC but I
cannot get it to work using my new hardware. <br>
<br>
I am trying to run Xsane but the error I am being returned is "
Failed to open device 'epkowa:interpreter:003:007':Error during
device I/O" . The scanner is connected using USB and of course is
turned on.
I will give you as much detail as I am able.<br>
<br>
<p>Before attempting to run Xsane I have loaded the following files:<br>

<p> It may be of interest that my machine is set up for dual boot to
Windows 8.1. If I boot into Windows the scanner works normally.
This would suggest that I do not have a hardware problem I think.
</p>
<p>The dual boot setup has Windows on one 256G SSD and Ubuntu on a
separate 256G SSD so there should not be any crossover between
them. Grub seems happy with that arrangement too.</p>
<p>I also have 1TB and 2TB data drives. Both these are formatted to
EXT4.</p>
<p id="yui_3_10_3_1_1402037587855_649">I have tested all the USB
ports on my machine with the scanner. There are 6 ports on the
back of the machine. Four are USB 3.0 and two are USB 2.0/1.1. I
have 3 USB ports on the front of the machine 2 are USB 3.0 and 1
is USB 2.0</p>
<p>After a cold boot I attached the scanner to what I believe is a
USB 2.0 port and the system initiated, Xsane ran and I was able to
scan a document successfully (colour). I continued to test other
ports with the machine reporting I/O errors for all the other
ports (including those I believed to be USB 2.0/1.1. I then tried
putting the scanner back into the original USB 2.0 port and IT
reported an I/O error.</p>
<p>All ports seem to work normally with the scanner when I am using
Windows 8.1.<br>

<p>It would seem I am having some problems with my USB ports but I
have no idea how to deal with it. Strangely all my other usb based
devices are happy.<br>
