Tested scanner by installing 'simple scan' application on Ubuntu.
Previously, using the sane-backends debian package from the Ubuntu
    repositories (sane-backends 1.0.23-3ubuntu3.1), 'simple-scan' did
not detect the scanner. After building sane-backends, simple-scan
detected scanner as 'CANON Canon PIXMA MG5600 Series'. Successfully
scanned images at 150dpi grayscale and 300dpi, 600dpi and 1200 dpi
    color.<br>
