I don't want two libprcre libraries in the essential set. So if we
switch libselinux, then yes, I have no objections to enable regex
support in journald.

Simon has done some bug filing here. I guess you are aware of
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=907652
Santiago, what's the state of this bug report?
Also, libpcre2 libraries are
> located in /usr/lib and not /lib, debian is not supporting late mounting

That late-mounting /usr is no longer supported has already been
documented in the (stretch I think) release notes.
