Hi,

First of all, the deadline for students is this FRIDAY, if a student does
not have a proposal in Melange with at least a link to the Debian wiki with
her proposal, she won't be eligible.
If you are a student, please hurry up and also please, add your proposal
to the wiki if you have not added it yet, it is easier to browse than melange.

If you are a student and have already submitted a proposal on a project
with several other candidates, we highly encourage you to submit alternate
proposals to us. We can only choose one student for each project.

Now an overview of the current status of the projects. The projects marked
with {*} are of special concern because of the cited reasons and/or
they have not been commented in this list or IRC.
Your feedback about them would be very welcomed.

 {*} [[SummerOfCode2011/BuildWithEucalyptus]]: Cross-compilation and
 cross-virtualisation, cross-cloud with Eucalyptus

This project has two student proposals in melange.
The discussion in Melange points that the deliverables of the project are not
clear in the original proposal and the project does not seem to have a final
mentor, only a provisional one looking for a substitute.

 {*} [[SummerOfCode2011/DebianEmulatedOnWindows]]: Debian applications starting
 with a double click on that other OS from DVD

This project has 1 student proposal in melange.
The discussion in Melange points that the goal of the project isn't fully clear.

 * [[SummerOfCode2011/DevPkgRepo]]: Developer Package Repositories

 * [[SummerOfCode2011/AptDebdeltaIntegration]]: DebDelta integration
 * [[SummerOfCode2011/AptOrderingCodeImprovements]]: Apt ordering code
 improvements / download-install in parallel

Both projects have 1 student proposal and 1 mentor. They are also mentioned
as co-mentoring the "Apt team", it would good to know what people from this
team is willing to help.

I think both project has been discussed internally in the apt team.
David Kalnischkies provided some more details in IRC.

 {*} [[SummerOfCode2011/Jigsaw]]: Packaging of Jigsaw (modular JVM/JDK for Java 8)

The project has 3 proposals and 2 co-mentors.
I have not find any discussion about this project.

 {*} [[SummerOfCode2011/JavaPackages]]: Java packages for Taverna

The project does not have any public student proposal. It has a mentor.
The project seems to fail in the "package this category" mentioned in this mail [0].

 * [[SummerOfCode2011/PythonMultibuild]]: tool to automate building Python
 extensions

This project has 2 student proposals and 1 mentor.
The project was discussed in the debian-python mailing-list:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-python/2011/03/msg00128.html

 {*} [[SummerOfCode2011/BOINC]]: Streamline the preparation of BOINC projects

The project has 2 students proposal in melange and 1 mentor commited partially
to at least another 2 more project.

 remote execution

The project has 1 students proposal in melange and 1 mentor and 1 co-mentor.
The discussion and comments in melange point that the purpose of the
project and its deliverables are not clear.

 {*} [[SummerOfCode2011/GeneticCloning]]: Genetic Cloning with Debian
The project has 2 students proposal in melange and 1 mentor commited partially
to at least another 2 more project.
The discussion and comments in melange point that the purpose of the project,
its deliverables and how the project benefits to Debian is not clear.

 * [[SummerOfCode2011/TeamFeatures]]: Measuring performance in teams inside
 Debian

This project has 1 student proposal, 1 mentor and 1 co-mentor.
The project has been discussed here: http://lists.debian.org/debian-blends/2011/04/msg00000.html
and there has been a lot of activity in the proposal in melange to
improve the idea.

 * [[SummerOfCode2011/IceweaselPluginFinder]]: Package-aware Plugin Finder
 Service for Iceweasel

 No students and 1 mentor.
 It was discussed here:
 http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/soc-coordination/2011-March/000932.html

 {*} [[SummerOfCode2011/DEX]]: Work with the DEX project to merge changes
 from derivatives and help prepare the backend tools

The project has 1 student proposal and 1 mentor.
I can not find any discussion about this project and it is lacking a clear
idea of what the deliverables will be.

Ana
