Yes. This is exactly what I was thinking about.

Ahh, right - I forgot about this option of "debian native packages".

This option also came immediately to my mind when I was reading your
doubt. It might have some flaws, but I would think we should go for
this and look at the numbers if they fit our expectation. As last
resort would be to mention such "native packages" in a config file
if your suggested approach would not work relieable.
