Thanks for looking at this.  My summary was inaccurate.  If _upstream_
have a gitignore then it does indeed end up in the package.  But if
the gitignore is created or changed by the maintainer, the default -I
omits it, I think.

I haven't tried this with gbp yet.  (I'm currently wrestling with some
dgit misbehaviour with 3.0 single-debian-patch.)  If I'm wrong then
excellent.
