I agree that does look odd.  Can you share the original HEIC file?

I downloaded the sample HEIC file from https://filesamples.com/formats/heic and 
it views correctly in both DigiKam and ShowFoto.  Specifically it showed as 
seen in this web page: https://fileinfo.com/extension/heic

Would be interested to know what your system displays for that sample image.
