I was able to reproduce this with these sources.list entries:

deb http://deb.opera.com/opera/ stretch non-free
deb http://deb.opera.com/opera-beta/ stretch non-free
deb http://deb.opera.com/opera-snapshot/ stretch non-free

(They don't know about stretch, just about testing, see
http://deb.opera.com/opera/dists/)

It might be necessary to first do the following:

* Add a line like "deb http://deb.opera.com/opera/ stable non-free"
* Run "apt update"
* Add the according GPG key with "apt-key add"
* Run "apt update" again.
* Change "stable" to "stretch".
* Then run "aptitude -u" and it should stall as reported.

At least the above should suffice.
