Well, well, well....your comments tickles my mind. I know these issues
can very rapidly grow to political issues (we already has similar
cases, not with languages and default countries but with country
names).

Actually, Bengali being the official language from Bangladesh would
make me more comfortable in putting BD as default country.

Of course, one could argue for India for two reasons:

-I suppose that Bengali is the official language of some India states
and thus, India being a federation, be regarded as "an official
language in India" even if not an official language of the Federation
itself

-the translator (you) originates from India and it can be his
privilege to define the default country...:-)


However, putting IN as default could also be regarded as offensive by
people from Bangladesh so, if you don't mind I would prefer taking no
risk and use BD as default.

I'm maybe over-cautious here but, well....I speak from experience and
I do my best to avoid hurting people's feelings....

For my statistics page, are you aware of how many people actually
speak Bengali (both in BD and IN...and possibly other countries)? I
can find references on ethnologue.com but I also like having advices
by more clued people.
