Can you find out why it does not work?  It should just copy the
appropriate keytab to the machine, prompting if the keytab has been
used already (and offering to re-use it).

These files contain the LDAP certificate and the public key for the
root user on the mainserver to allow password-less login from the
mainserver as root to all clients.  They are created in

           scripts/SERVER_A/10-misc
           scripts/LDAP_SERVER/10-mkslapdcert

Yes, these files should be kept.

Hm, we have to figure out how to do that best.  Up to now, I intended
to prepare a package for the latest stable Debian release and then
kind of freeze the development for that version.

Perhaps it is possible to make the git repository a remote for the
local config space which would allow to cherry-pick from the alioth
repository.
