That's perfectly OK - gforge or other repositories should be the primary
location of the source in any case.  If you decide for the SVN Debian
Med repository you should oly keep the debian/ directory there.  (On the
other hand you should *not* store this debian/ directory with packaging
stuff in the upstream source repository for several reasons which were
discussed on debian lists previosely.)

In the Git repository it was decided in the policy to keep a copy of
the upstream source - if you don't like it you should choose SVN.

In short: The answer is no - just keep the debian/ directory in SVN -
just look at the examples there.
