I'd suggest to add the Mentoring of the Month program[3] to your bug
tracker[2].  I'd happily teach you about any packaging issues that might
occure when enhancing the Ugene package.  I personally would love to
enhance the Ugene package and bring it into main Debian but I'm simply
lacking time and more importantly the knowledge about internals of
Ugene.  So having someone of the Ugene development team as maintainer
of the package would be a very good move I'd fully support and MoM is
some established method to approach this.
