Very good catch!  Thanks for this.  In fact the MPI code was removed
2015-08-19 so we ship the non-functional MPI uselessly since about three
years. :-(

I'm about to build a fixed package (just droping mothur-mpi).

There is no need to fiddle around with severities since it will be fixed
soon.  I just would like to know your motivation to file the bug as
serious since I would have done with normal in this case since I can not
really see what is broken.
