from looking at the source code the package in stable is likely functional.

There were two reasons:

1. Something is pretty broken, as it turns out the mothur-mpi package
is useless. If in doubt I prefer to err on the RC side since this has
a better chance of someone actually looking at the bug.

2. "apt-get install mothur-dbgsym mothur-mpi-dbgsym" results in an error
from dpkg, the lintian warning for that is how I actually found this bug.
