Great! I will continue using the AUTOPKGTEST_TMP variable and will also stick to pure POSIX syntax. Thank you for your help and mentoring.

I also agree and have made the changes to add an md5sum based test. I should have reviewed other debmed packages. There is a merge request for the updated test.
