I think your changes are good in principle and its good that the source
code affected by the non-free license is not built any more.  However,
we keep on shipping the affected code inside the source tarball.  Thus
we either need to strip it from our source tarball (via Files-Excluded
in d/copyright) or more preferable upstream would tag a new upstream
release which does not contain the code any more.  This would make
things even more convenient.

Do you see any chance to convince upstream to tag a release including
the latest patch?
