I'm not sure I'd agree that this is the solution to an accessibility 
issue. For example, dark mode also has far lower contrast, people that 
need high contrast might request exactly the opposite change.

In the end, I think which theme should be used is a very personal 
decision that should be taken by the end user depending on their 
circumstances and environment. If the first password entry is difficult, 
the user can switch to dark mode using the toggle in the top left 
corner. This toggle not working would absolutely be a bug if you have 
tried it.

Finally, we almost exactly ship the upstream config. Should upstream 
change the default we'd follow suit.
