Package: python3-orange3
Version: 3.37.0-1+b3
Severity: important
User: python3-qtconsole at packages.debian.org
Usertags: drop-qt5
python3-qtconsole is dropping its dependency on the Python Qt5
libraries, as it is a widget, not an application, and works with
PyQt5, PyQt6 and PySide 6. See
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1089946
for more discussion on this.
python3-orange3 depends on python3-qtconsole. But it seems that
python3-orange3 itself assumes that whoever is using it manages their
own Python Qt dependencies; there is no dependency on any Qt package
(only on Qt metapackages).
I assume, therefore, that there will not need to be any changes to
python3-orange3, except perhaps documentation changes, but I'm
reporting this in case I am wrong about this.
python3-qtconsole version 5.6.1-3 in experimental has made this change
(dropping PyQt5 dependencies), and also includes a README.Debian.gz
specifying the Python Qt dependencies required by this package
(depending on the Qt framework used, PyQt5, PyQt6 or PySide 6). This
can be used to test your changes, if any.
I plan to upload the new python3-qtconsole to unstable in about four
weeks (or sooner if possible), so if you are able to consider this bug
before then, I'd appreciate it! If I don't hear anything, I will
assume (on the basis of the above) that it's fine to upload the new
python3-qtconsole without making any changes to python3-orange3.
Best wishes,
Julian
