reply from upstream:
they rewrote that section of the code since release 12, so that line
doesn't appear anymore:
https://github.com/sudar/Arduino-Makefile

Could you try upstream's master and see if that works? I think they're
still doing lots of rewrites now that the new development team is
taking over.
