Blas vs atlas

Dear science team.  Would it make sense to give atlas higher priority than
blas?

It is very solid, and my benchmarks indicate a speedup by a factor 3.
Apple also ships its osx with atlas, too.

For me, it impacted r performance.   Of course, I know how to fix this for
myself, but I am asking on behalf of novices that wonder why osx is so much
faster than linux in some scientific apps.
