[Debian-science-sagemath] upstreaming nauty patches?

I am maintaining the the nauty package for Debian.

I submitted technical patch to the upstream maintainer once:
he did not apply them. I do not think he is reluctant to patches
as I convinced him to adopt a licence compatible with Debian.
I think that he is not that familiar and comfortable with technical issues
(C, unix shell, autotools). And, as academic, his time is certainly very precious:
we can understand that technical issues are low in his priority list.
