The issue is not the number of dependencies, but rather how Sage deals with them.
Releasing stable versions based on at least one unstable version of an outside software creates monsters whatever their size.

It is true at the very zeroth order, but absolutely not at higher orders:
the problem is that Sage develops features based on potentially illegitimate

I guess that he meant that stable Sage release must depends on stable code present in stable releases.


Otherwise, this discussion sounds crazy when one knows that Sage is still stick to Singular 3
which is by now an old dead branch of Singular.
