OK, finally.

In the meantime, I have uploaded a stop-gap -4 which slightly lowers
the maximum amount of atoms, thus reducing the static array sizes to
something ia64 can (hopefully the buildd as well) chew.  Build results
are not in yet.

I requested this to the Debian System Admins, but they were not thrilled
