Because exactly this was boring I did some effort to find a more general
solution and since the last couple of devscripts releases this is
accepted and documented. Your are correct that
http://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/copyright-format/1.0/
does not document this and there is an open bug against Debian policy
about this. Sometimes code is in advance of all possible documentation
but uscan.1 has it.
