From my limited tests the other day, what I found most annoying was the
fact that it needed three wrong swipes to fallback to password. (It does
fallback if the swipes are "good swipes" but with wrong finger). I just
proposed a patch to upstream to have both defaults (max tries and
timeout) configureable:

For now, I have removed the conflicts from the pam-configs file as a
(tentative) package for fingerprint-gui is yet to be seen (at least in
the Debian archive).

That was mostly muscle-memory: so far I always used the upstream-master
pair. But I don't really care and can cope with that; I force-pushed a
change.
