[Freedombox-discuss] P2P (sort-of) oriented photo gallery

Hi list,

Does anyone know of a project that would "distribute" a photo gallery of
multiple servers ?

While thinking about the limitations of our asymetric broadband access (less
upload than download), I thought of a simple hack that could speed up things
while browsing an HTML generated photo gallery. The idea would be to host
the same album on N servers and when you generate the "thumbnails" page you
cycle through the N servers for the <img src=> tag. In the first place, you
could reference identical albums on other servers manually, but then another
feature would be to "copy" the album to your gallery and it would
automatically reference the other one (and vice versa).

Personally I know that I often try to have a "local" copy of an photo set of
a shared event. This would be a good way of getting freedomboxes into the
homes of family member or friends.

The advantage of this "hack" is to avoid a complicated p2p storage solution.
Obviously when getting a single big photo, you don't benefit from the
speedup.

Does this exist ? or does it inspire anyone ?

Arthur
