I think the XO is a very good example of why you want to avoid
designing/building your own hardware at all costs. I bought an XO via the buy
two get one program. Between that and the OpenMoko (another expensive mistake)
I've learned my lesson on hardware.

A mobile phone is common and inconspicuous. An XO is instantly recognizeable
for what it is which isn't a good thing in our intended environment.
