Hi all
I sent my email a bit quickly last evening without elaborating on my
motivation so I'll try to answer the different points raised these last
24 hours.
@Jonas : I did mailed James Vasile last week on the possibility of
having access to the foundation website and a dedicated mailing list but
with no reply yet. I tried to hunt him around on IRC with not much
success. I do have however a hunch (correct me if I’m wrong) that the
capabilities of debian hosting might be more limited than what I would
expect for setting up a "modern" website (mysql, shell access, control
panel...). Beyond the technical limitations there is also the question
of trust and representation. Would the foundation grant me access to
their world facing mean of communication with only my good faith and a
couple of emails exchanged ? I could not blame them if they did not.
After having read the TAC thread on their mailing list in July [1] I
came to the conclusion that the community around the freedombox could
organize itself a bit more without waiting for "official" approval.
@Nick : On the point of splitting the effort. James Vasile launched the
idea of working groups in July but sadly nothing ensued yet. What I was
suggesting is merely putting to good use (advocacy and advertising
mainly) those of us who are not developers or packagers... and trying to
get more people interested and possibly on board as well.
@Weaver : My goal, at first, is really to communicate the dream that we
share and translate in layman's terms what is happening along the way to
make it a reality. Nothing "official" about it really, think more of it
as an enthusiast's site.
@Timur : Thanks for the kind words !
Thanks everyone for the input however, it is always useful to mature
one's ideas. I intend to work on writing material for a few days to see
if I get any responses from James but if nothing shows up I'll go for
the separate website route with anyone interested.
Regards
