You have to tweak the linking rules.

Possible issue is no reported serial number (virtual machines or some
separately bought motherboards do this sometimes).
Also, if you clone a machine can be problematic if no serial numbers are
reported because you will have the cached old UUID (in this case you have
to clear the cache then report again to get a new uuid).
